Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Group
Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in power within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
With a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.
Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.
At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, striking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.
Casimir then settled his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each member has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
- The warrior and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to execute the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the team reach places they usually can’t.
- Additionally, Teor vowed a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the clan.
This means them few options but to journey toward the northern region in search of the antagonist.
